Mindfulness in the Morning

Grass Valley Parents and Families:

We are excited to tell you about the ways we have changed our social-emotional learning time in the morning, the first 10 minutes of the day. Click here to read about our new morning routine: Mindfulness

We have had huge success already in just two short weeks with having kids actively learn how to identify their emotions, use new strategies, and start their day off calm and ready to learn.

Here are some of our teacher's comments about students since learning about mindfulness:

"My students really enjoy the videos in the morning. They have condensed their routine that they usually drag out (as a form of reluctance to come to school) so that they can get to the carpet. They are more eager to come to school, and calmer during the morning part of the day."

"My students now need our morning routine to become ready to learn. They enjoy the reset each morning, even students who may not need it each time. I've noticed the vocabulary they use when discussing it after has changed and it has impacted the way we solve problems throughout the day."

Please check out our Highlighted Video of the Week so if you would like, you can start to use some of these strategies at home when your child might need some calmness or time to create space between their emotions and their actions in order to make good decisions.

Some strategies that you can remind your student to use can be breathing, stretching or identifying the emotion they are feeling and talking about it.

We will continue to share our great mindfulness news with you!
