Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is committed to the education of all students appropriate to the best of their individual abilities; to a constant awareness of the concerns and desires of the whole District regarding the quality and performance of the School District, with the Board of Trustees assuming an educational leadership role. Our meetings are held on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at the Humboldt County School District Office located at 310 E. Fourth Street. Meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. (PST).

Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) supports success for all students through local school board leadership. National School Boards Association (NSBA) represents state school boards associations and their more than 90,000 local school board members.

All members of the Humboldt County School District Board of Trustees have successfully completed a minimum of six hours of professional development as required by NRS Chapter 386 (AB 451).

Mrs. Glenda Deputy

President

Mrs. Deputy is a thirty year resident of Humboldt County and a thirty-three year resident of Nevada. She has been a hunter education instructor for sixteen years as well as a Humboldt County 4-H leader for seventeen years. Her four children attended schools in Orovada, Paradise Valley and Winnemucca. She and her husband, Dennis, enjoy the company of their three grandchildren ages 8, 4 and 2, as well as spending time outdoors.

Mrs. Nicole Bengochea

Vice President

Mrs. Bengochea is a 27 year resident of Winnemucca/ Humboldt County. She is 2003 graduate of Albert Lowry High School. She has been married to her husband Isaac for 10 years. Together they have three children. Two of her children currently attend school in Humboldt County.

Mrs. Bengochea believes in the importance of a quality public education for every child in our community. She has a vested interest in seeing our schools be the best that they can be and firmly believes that every child in Humboldt County should have the same quality of education. It is the responsibility of the school board to oversee and ensure that those opportunities are available for every child.

Mr. Boyd Betteridge

Clerk

Mr. Betteridge graduated from Lowry High School in 1976. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus of Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years and attended Brigham Young University for two years before transferring to the Albuquerque Technical Vocational Institution. He worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Atomic Vapor Laser Isotope System program. He later worked on YAG (Yittrium Aluminum Garnet) Diode Pumped lasers before deciding to move to Winnemucca to begin his own business. Mr. Betteridge has two sons who have graduated from Lowry High School and a daughter who is currently attending. “Because of my background, my education path has been different, and I believe other students may feel the same way.” He continued, “I believe the goals that we have as a board are good and need constant work to make sure we are putting our kids first.” Mr. Betteridge’s goals during his tenure as a school district trustee are to help launch a comprehensive Career Technical Education (CTE) program for those students who will seek a technical rather than academic post-high school education. He also would like to see every student in Humboldt County graduate from high school. He wishes to ensure a safe school environment for students, as well as give students the chance to participate in sports, music and extra- curricular activities. “I appreciate all the employees of the Humboldt County school system; they are all working hard and try to do the best they can under difficult circumstances.”

Mr. John Hill

Mr. Hill is a graduate of McDermitt High School. His goal is to make sure that all Humboldt County School District students have an opportunity for quality education in a safe and secure learning environment.

Mr. Abram Swensen

Mr. Swensen was raised in Winnemucca and within the Humboldt County School District, graduating from Albert Lowry High School in 1997. After high school, he served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Trujillo, Peru, and subsequently graduated from Brigham Young University where he earned a Masters of Accountancy, with a Tax emphasis. Abram then moved to Las Vegas to begin his professional career as a CPA at Ernst & Young, a Big Four accounting firm. While in Las Vegas, Abram was part of the exploratory board and later served as Treasurer on first board of directors for Doral Academy of Nevada. About five years ago, Abram and his family relocated to Winnemucca, where he works at Swensen & Company, CPAs, a local tax and accounting firm.

Abram and his wife, April, have been married for about 16 years, and are parents to five beautiful girls, four of which attend three different District schools. As a parent, Abram believes it is our duty to teach our children the value of a quality education and help them build a strong educational and moral base that will guide them throughout their lives. He joined the School Board to help ensure that our community’s children have every opportunity for growth and success in a safe environment, supported by effective and empowered teachers, administrators, and parents.

Mr. Andy Heiser

Mr. Heiser first attended the University of Nevada Reno in 2000. There he played on the football team and studied Health and Nutrition. He lived in Reno for 14 years before making a move across the country to work and live in the New Jersey/New York City area. Last September, his family had the opportunity to move back to Nevada and was extremely happy it was in Winnemucca. His wife grew up in the Winnemucca/Paradise Valley area and they now have a two year old daughter with another daughter due in November 2018. In his spare time, Andy enjoys playing sports and spending time with his family.

Mr. Heiser joined the school board to be part of this new community and show his support of the district that both his daughters will attend in the future. He believes that every student should have great support in the classroom to have the opportunity to become a successful adult.

Mr. Chris Entwistle

Mr. Entwistle is a born and raised resident of northern Nevada. He has lived in Sparks, Fallon, Fernley and now Winnemucca. He graduated from Doane University in Crete, NE, with a BA degree in Physical Education with emphasis in Sports Management. He has managed and owned the COUNTRY Financial Office in Winnemucca since 2009. Chris and his wife (Erin) have two young children in the Humboldt County School System. As a business owner, he believes it is important to give back to the community that supports his business and affords them a way of life!

As a parent Chris believes it is our responsibility to give our children every opportunity possible to become the best they can be. He joined the school board because he wanted to help ensure that our (Humboldt County) children have the best teachers, the best administrators, and the best opportunities to help them on their path to becoming the best them that they can be!
