PBIS Expectations at School

Our Motto: Today and every day, be your own superhero!

You have probably heard your child reference our High Five Expectations. These expectations are part of our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program that helps us teach and reach school-wide expectations and expected behaviors. Each area of our school has expectations posted. You have probably seen them displayed on posters and signs in all areas of our school. These give students the “what to do” in each area to show Super Kid behavior.

Students receive Super Kid cards to reinforce modeling of these behaviors. These positive behavior tickets can be “cashed in” for rewards and drawings throughout the year.
One of the best ways for students to practice these positive behaviors is by having a home and school connection about the use and understanding of the expectations. You can use these expectations at your home for teaching and showing expected behavior, or as a conversation piece about school, “How did you show respect in your classroom today.”

GVES High Five Expectations Expectations to help review at home:

• Be Respectful • Be Responsible • Be Safe • Be There, Be Ready • Be Positive

How does PBIS fit into what we are already doing?

Our goal is not just about teaching academics, it’s about teaching the whole child

PBIS sets clear expectations for students and recognizes students for meeting them; this is reliant on Responsible Decision-Making and Self-Management

PBIS focuses on all students working together to not only self-mange but also to build positive relationship-this requires developing Relationship Skills and Social Awareness

PBIS focuses on giving regular, pro-active support in order to prevent unwanted behaviors-our daily Morning Routine is one component of this proactive support.

Here is our highlighted video that shows one way we support students in starting out positive:
