Kindergarten students play with a WJHS student's toy

Who doesn't love new toys? Even better, who doesn't love playing with toys no one else has? Kindergarten students from Grammar had the chance to play with toys that were completely designed and built by the students in Mrs. Thomas's Design and Modeling classes.

WJHS students took on the roles of research and development, toy designer, prototype builder and innovator in this project. Each small group planned to create a fun toy for Kindergartners. Once they had a design and a plan, they were able to begin building. Mrs. Thomas had a huge variety of materials and tools that could be used in the creation of this one-of-a-kind toy. Students used cardboard, fabric, wood, acrylic, plastic and lots of glue! Some used sewing machines, 3D printers, Cricuts and the laser cutter/engraver to create.

The Kindergartners were a wonderful focus group for the WJHS students to test the toys. Our Design & Modeling students were thoughtful innovators. Our school is very proud of what was created for this enormous undertaking!
